The clients needed to be able to move a caravan onto their front garden from time to time but wanted it to remain a wildlife friendly place and not be hard landscaped. So we have installed hard wearing, recycled plastic grid and planted it up with a selection of wild flowers that will withstand the rigours of the caravan whilst being a beautiful wildflower meadow where wildlife is always welcome – and fed. This is the story.
We dug out any wild flowers that were in the current lawn and dug out the area, moving the top soil to the back garden for use in some raised beds and keeping the sub soil for later.
Some of the shallow roots of the cherry tree were excavated and undermined to let them drop down a little to be under the base layer, then given extra layers of protection…
..then permeable layers of gravel and root zone were added and firmed into place.
Recycled plastic grid was then laid down…..
..filled with growing media and planted with wild flower plugs, the dug out plants, and seeds.
By summer this should have filled out to be a lush ‘lawn’. We will post photos of its progress,
